Do ferries in greece still run during december january? And do any restaurants open up?
Planing a trip to greece maybe during december, january, but i have heard that ferries dont run through this season and most restaurants are closed. Is this true? What is the weather like does it get too cold?
Ferries do run in the winter time but not with the same regularity as in the summer. However, one of the common problems they face is the high winds in the seas that are not uncommon and result in canceling of departures. That is usually a problem that rectifies itself within the next 24 hours.
Most of the most frequented islands have both hotels and restaurants that work during that time and surprisingly they have much better service than in the summer because they cater for local visitors, mostly commercial reps.
The best choice for an island visit is Crete that has daily sailings with boats that are not affected much by the winds and Chania or Heraklion are very much alive during winter too.
Greece is beautiful in the winter, but NOT the islands. Only few of teh ferries run, the sea is wild, restaurants and hotels are mostly closed.
