Probable the best kept secret of Greece. Ios in Cyclades only 30 minutes away from Santorini. Really beautiful even in winter. Only to become the Party island the tourists know about in Summer.

“Greece!
I left my grandma last Friday night to catch the midnight ferry to Santorini! I took the metro to the port, but there was so working being done on one of the stops on the way to the port.I had to get off the metro catch a bus then get back on another metro to finally arrived at the port. It took me about an hour to get to the port.Once I arrived ,I found where my ferry was leaving from and went to get my ticket. The man at the ticket office informed me that my ferry was delayed until 3:30am.WHAT? It was only about 10pm at this point. So I had to wait outside in the cold until the ferry arrived..boo
Sanortini
Once the ferry arrived it was a mad house trying to get on board. When I finally got settled. I was so tired.I took two night time meds, put on my eye mask and fell fast asleep.
I woke up the next morning about an hour before we were going to stop in Santorini.
Once we stopped I found the driver to my hostel and was excited to get to the beach. Most of the hostels will pick you up from the ferry and take you to the hostel for free.I stayed at Anny studios on Perissa beach. The Hostel was a fun place to stay. The people that work there are so friendly and helpful. They have a free laundry with a real washing machine!
By the time I got settled in the Hostel is was early afternoon. I found a cheap place to get gyros and made my way to the black sand beach to enjoy the rest of the day in the sun!
Later that night, I got ready to check out the nightlife! It was still very early in the summer season so there were not a ton of people on the island, but there were enough people in my hostel to go and have a good time with. That is exactly what I did! My friend Clare from back home worked in Perissa beach for two summer a few years ago. She have me some recommendations of where to go. I tried to meet up with some of her friend but they were not on the island yet.
I went out with two new friends from Australia. We went drinking at local bar, where big beers where two euro and the owner was giving us free shots of Ouzo.I really don’t like Ouzo but it is hard for me to say no to a free shot! After the local bar we made a few more stops at some other small bars along the beach until we ended up at the beach bar dancing the night away!
The next day my poor body was not liking me for drinking all night.I was pretty hungover, but made myself get up and enjoy the beach.I spent the day hang out on the beach doing my best to recover from the night before!
I planned to take the bus into Fira that afternoon to see the main town in the island but because it was still low season the last bus returning from town come back to early.
That night I stayed in watching a movie and chilling out.I had a early ferry to Ios the next day to meet up with my friends Ryan and Brook, who I meet on my boat cruise in Turkey,
Ios
The Ferry from Santorini to Ios was only about an hour long.I got there early afternoon and checked into my hostel, Far Out Beach Resort!I l loved this place. It is right on the water and had places to sleep anywhere from camping to really night beach cabins.I was staying in a dorm with a girl names Paige, who turns out, had been traveling with my friends Ryan and Brook!
Once I got settled,I made my way down to the beach where I saw my friend Ryan!We spent the day on the beach enjoying the sunshine and the boys played volleyball.Brook joined us later in the afternoon cause she had spent the day in town.
Later that night we all got ready to hit the town! We had a few drinks at the hotel then made our way into town. The last bus into town was at 9pm and nothing really gets started until midnight. So Ryan,Brook, Paige and I decide to have a nice Greek dinner in town.
After dinner we made out way to Fun Pub to start the night. Then we made out way to flames, which was pretty much the only bar open late in town cause it was still low season.Usually there are about 82 bars open in this tiny little town once the season gets going.
Again, there were enough people staying at our hostel and in town to make for a good time, plus it was great to be reunited with my friends from Turkey! The drinks were …”

Entry Title: “Party island!”
Entry:
“Hi there
Unfortunately from here on in we only have one night in every destination! It really makes us get out and about and try to see what we can, apart from here! Basically we arrived and were transported to our hostel and then we jumped on the local bus down to the Far Out Beach bar to have a few drinks and go for a swim. The Socceroos were also playing in the afternoon so I was alternating between the beach and the bar to check scores (have to be patriotic and follow our teams you know).
The beach was really nice and was the normal golden sand but the water was not as clear as Santorini. Still very beautiful though. After the game we were off back to our hostel and relaxed by the pool for an hour or so (Summer daylight savings is great!) and then we were getting ready to immerse ourselves in the party culture of the Island. The amount of people on this island is amazing and mostly Australian!
The hill in town is one big maze of alleys with clubs and pubs everywhere, not to mention the usual kebab shops as every second store. Great place and we spent a couple of hours just wandering the alleyways and had the occasional drink when we found a cheap deal.
We decided that if we came back we would definitely need more time to explore the island and soak up the atmosphere and explore all the other beaches.
The hostel that we stayed at was awesome and the staff were amazing! The owner even raced my towel and shorts down to me at the dock as I had left them on the balcony overnight to dry! Really friendly place!
So unfortunately that is it from Ios.

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Ios, Greece by TravelPod blogger Mattandlouise titled “Paradise Found”. TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™.
Mattandlouise’s travel blog entry:
“The four hour ferry ride out to Ios was very pleasant, although pretty windy. We sat on the stern sundeck and read our books, occasionally glancing up at the passing islands as we sailed across the Mediterranean Sea — the islands were all very rocky with barely any green in sight which caught us a bit by surprise, we were expecting to see some lush landscapes with vineyards and fields, but they were still a very pretty backdrop to the amazing blue sea. As we drew closer to Ios we saw that it too was very barren for the most part, but still had some incredible looking beaches and beautiful white houses and villas lining the hills.
We arrived at the very cute port and our huge vessel did a remarkable three point turn to line up the stern with the small dock, at the same time lowering its giant ramp so we could all disembark. It didn’t take us very long to spot our hotel transfer driver, and after a few minutes of taking in the port area and village we were in a van heading over the hill to Mylopotas Beach where Far Out Beach Club is located. The beach was stunning, a long stretch of golden sand lined with umbrellas and sunchairs inside a sheltered bay of clear blue water. There were a few quiet shops and hotels down one end of the beach, and then Far Our Hotel and Camp Site down the other end — the party end. We arrived at our hotel to hear beats pumping from the speakers out by the pool, with scores of young people soaking up the rays at the bar or by the pool, which looks out over the beach. We had to wait a couple of hours for our room to be ready so we went for a wander down the beach to the shops, stopping for lunch and grabbing some new towels and a sarong.
The hotel itself was incredibly beautiful, with spotless white buildings in typical Greek island architecture adorned with bright blue doors and window shutters. The rooms were set among well maintained gardens, and ours had its own courtyard with a climbing rose weaving through the rafters above our outdoor furniture. Once our room was available we wasted no time in sunblocking up and heading for the beach — the next few hours were spent simply lounging on sunchairs reading and people watching in between refreshing swims in the amazing water. Although the peak season for Ios had just ended, there was still a fair few other people on the beach — mostly Aussies and Americans from a tour bus with the odd European floating around as well. While we were enjoying the beach we booked in for a cliff-jumping kayak safari the next day that Matt’s brother had done last year and had highly recommended it to us.
Once we had had enough sun we crossed the road back to the hotel pool and ordered a drink and a Greek salad each to get our five plus, then went for a mission around some rocks to the end of the bay so we could take some photos of the sun setting. We had the point totally to ourselves to watch the sun go down, then braved the rocks back to the beach and strolled down to a restaurant for some delicious burgers. At a toilet stop along the way Matt dropped the camera and the LCD screen broke, but luckily the electronic view finder still worked fine! After our burgers Matt went for a quick dip then we cruised back to our hotel and bed — we were pretty exhausted from our 5:30am wake up that morning and needed an earlyish night.”
