Should I be wary of booking a holiday in Greece this summer?

admin on Dec-8-2011

There’s all sorts of economy related problems in greece at the minute and strikes at airports etc. seem very likely. Is this a reason to stop my friends and I from booking a holiday there in the summer and going to an alternative destination (e.g. Cyprus) instead?

On one hand no, because that economy needs tourists. On the other hand, there’s indeed a good possibility of strikes causing disruptions.

If I wanted to go I think I would but I’d also get a good travel insurance.

  1. Big Said,

I would advise against booking a holiday at the moment. You should seriously consider sharing your concerns with your friend.

  3. Airpole. Said,

Economy problems affect almost all European countries at the moment to one degree or other. So that should not be your main issue. In fact, if anything you will be benefiting from that, as prices are kept low and the only people making profit by that are the tour operators who do not follow in decreasing theirs too.

Regarding strikes, that is a problem that can just as easily happen to any country and any trade, including your end of the travel. So you take your chances.

If you want to make an early booking check thoroughly your possibilities and always try to bargain the price since tour operators are affected by the crisis too. Thomas Cook is not out on the clear yet. That should tell you something.

  4. Suki Said,

You should do what makes you feel good. Holidays are about relaxing and not worrying.

Meanwhile most people who are planning their summer vacations in Greece, including myself, have already booked.
