Is it recommended to go to Greece on holiday next summer?
admin on Oct-28-2011
Me and my good lady usually book our summer hols around about now, and we usually go to Greece. But with all the financial upheaval taking place there, is it safe to book? And what are the likely scenarios, say, if Greece default or, heaven forbid, they go belly up and return to the Drachma? Will we get a cheap holiday? Will we get an expensive holiday? Will we get a holiday at all?
Definitely a green light. Greece offers best summer vacation, and it won’t change regardless of the outcome of the financial crisis. With so many possibilities it offers, you can always find a deal suitable for everyone’s pocket.
We ,my wife and myself have been holidaying in Greece for the past 38yrs and love the place and the people ,BUT, and a big BUT , I believe its going to be a lottery in going there ,even the Greek people can’t tell you how it will all end
Personally I reckon it will end "tit’s " up ,if you travel there, I think if you do it yourself ,rather than a package holiday, they will be through the roof .,who’s going to take a chance in pre-booking thousands of rooms ? Airlines will be a bit edgy ,to say the least ,are they going to put planes on the tarmac hoping ,Thompsons,Go Greek and the likes can fill their rooms ?
Its looking grim my friend ,really grim .

Greece looks set to become a key battleground in 2012 with both Thomas Cook and Cosmos promising to ramp up their activities in the destination.

“the euro won’t survive in its current format” and a two-tier euro zone was the most likely outcome – with one ‘hard’ currency, one ‘soft’. “The only silver lining is that some destinations may become less expensive. Southern Europe will become cheap again – [in Greece] probably by 30%-40%.”

If you feel unsafe, just don’t go. Pick another country for your summer, I’m sure you will be able to find a beautiful place to spend your holiday.
Meanwhile, Greece continues to be one of the top destinations worldwide. Financial crisis or not, Greece is still Greece. I mean, the crisis didn’t erase the country’s (wonderful) beaches, exquisite food, its brilliant culture, its magnificent history, the best weather, the kind, friendly people..all of which are important reasons for people from all over the world to visit Greece.
