Do Greeks generally welcome foreigners buying vacation homes in Greece?

admin on May-31-2010

I have read about Greeks being displeased with immigrants in their country but would they react the same way against foreign holiday home-owners? I’m Asian and consider buying a holiday home in one of the Cycladic islands.
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. I’ll put this to vote.

I ll be honest

we are little sensitive on this matter

you know how much we like foreigners and how friendly we are

but when it comes to houses and land, we are little more conservative

we dont salute the idea much

sorry but its the truth

and I think you ask for the truth, right?

Regards

    No.

    Dont even worry about it.
We are not displeasing immigrants,we are just suspsicious with those who are not behaving well.

But no,you wont have any problem.
Many foreigners buy property/houses in Greece.Even just for summer or even they move here.
Especially in Islands, who are touristic places ,all people are familiar and friendly with them.

The Cucladic ones will probably be the most expensive ones islands to buy a house. If you can afford it,will be a great choice.

Lol, like you wouldn’t welcome a thief and a visitor in your house the same way, likewise we don’t welcome illegal immigrants and legal immigrants or tourists the same way.

I don’t think that anyone would be displeased about a foreigner buying a house. Sorry, but i find your question pretty weird or even funny to tell you the truth. Images of a village with people come into my mind, where they say: "A foreigner has bought a house. We are displeased."

    Ahh, that cranks me up.

Not at all. Immigrants are also much better here than anywhere else, in fact.

Of course you won’t have any kind of problems. I know many people, especially pensioners from Germany and England that are living permanently in Chalkidiki and in other places, mostly in islands, Crete, Corfu etc.
The land you are going to buy IS YOUR BUSINESS, NO ONE HAS TO HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT THIS.
I’m thinking of buying a house abroad, never thought to ask about the welcoming of the natives! Who carres, after all?

Depends on the individual…There r not many Greeks who dislike all foreigners they re just focused in …disliking some specific nations but still there are many who don’t belong to the last two categories mentioned ;-) I don’t think u ll have a problem though…
