Isn’t tourism good enough to shape up Greece’s economy?

admin on Dec-31-2010

Sadly, no.

The level of debt is too high and the interest payments are also too high. Tourism doesn’t contribute enough to the economy to keep up.

So there has to be an austerity programme to get the debt level down.

  1. Doug Said,

Doubt it. I would never want to visit Greece if I had the money.

Selling the Acropolis and the Silver Surfer to the Sultan of Brunei, would be a good start! N.B. Give the points to elcoun; no argument.

Greeks had many difficult times in their history. I believe war is much more worse of a situation than an economic crisis. Besides… if you look, search and read many articles about economy and financial plans, you’ll notice by yourself that this crisis IS A FAKE ONE just to terrorize the people giving up hope to steal their fortunes later. So what if we have a crisis? Do you know (or anyone) an era that had no conflicts or hunger or war?? At this time the only thing that suffer from this "crisis" is our ego that we can’t have the chance anymore to have 2, 3, 4, cars or 2, 3 or more houses to give to our grand children’s grandchildren… You call that a crisis?

And I have a question to you all that believe this so called crisis: Do any of you have any proofs that Greece is really under a much more dangerous situation than any other country with dept?

No, the 18 millions of tourists that come every year leave at the country around 16 billions euro. The depth is around 400 billion.
Never the less, the money that Germany owe to Greece for more than 1 million deaths and destroying all the utilities of Greece at WW2 is more than enough. Of course Germany doesn’t pay like Greece does. And that is why we are Greeks and are not.

No. This is partly because the Greek minister for tourism made it clear that she was selective about the nationalities of the tourists she thought Greeks should be given. Mainly it is because everything is much better and cheaper in Turkey, and the Greeks can’t compete. Also, it would take an enormous number of toursists spending money like water for centuries, to pay for all the things the Greeks bought themselves with other peoples money.
