I would absolutely LOVE to get married on the beach in Greece …?

admin on Jan-25-2012

It’s my DREAM to get married in Greece, on the beach, just him and me! :)

Now as far as hiring someone to make the travel arrangements, plan the wedding (just the two of us), and find an all-inclusive hotel to stay in for 9 days … Who would I need to contact to set it all up for us? The whole reason we are going off somewhere to get married is to cut down on the stress of planning a big party for 150 + people. I feel like it will be more intimate if we go just him and me (my parents did the same thing 25 years ago to Hawaii and said they wouldn’t change it for the world). Did anyone one here plan the same thing for their wedding?

Thanks so much! :)

You don’t need a planner or travel agent.

All you need is to book a place and have the ceremony.

Here is info on the marriage laws in Greece: http://www.greecetravel.com/weddings/embassy.html

They recommend that you get a license in your home state, and then have it amended to allow the marriage to be performed in Greece. A marriage license from the U.S. is valid in Greece provided it does not have restrictions on it.

Next find a place. I am not a fan of all inclusive resorts. They take all the fun out of traveling and fining interesting restuarants and experiences. Greece is a safe country. It is not like going to Jamaica where you want a wall around your resort. In Greece, you will have the best time, if you leave the resort and explore.

To find a place, I suggest VRBO.com. You can find private villas for not much money. Some of them on the islands overlook the Mediterranean Sea.

If you need a photographer, I might be available, and I also know several excellent greek photographers.

  3. Heidi Rose Said,

Get a travel agent. It’s not that you absolutely need one, but they will be able to answer more specific questions about the place that you want to get married in than just google can. They will make sure that you get all of the correct paperwork filled out and in on time and find the perfect resort for you.
As for all-inclusive, I would stay away from them unless you’re on a very tight budget. Just get a hotel and ask to speak to a manager or concierge (that also speaks English if you don’t speak Greek) and ask them what they would recommend for you to do with your specific interests. This will cost you nothing and it will be tailored to your liking.
