If you choose to visit a touristic place, then defenately you ll communicate fine.They are not fluent but you can have a good communication and get the info you want.

If you choose a village in mainland with no tourism,then I guess you ll have a problem.

The 70-80% of the Greeks till 45 y.o. speak English at least in a decent level, after that age, you cannot easy find English speakers…..

But since you ask for restaurants and hotels,then YES,

To be hired in a hotel ,in Greece, the least you have to know is 2 languages and the one of them is English.Second might be German or French,despends on the area.

I d prefer to see comments from people who know what’s going on in Greece, and not from people that have never visited Greece and "post their opinion’ just because they want to say something.

We are traveling to Athens and Santorini this months from 24-31. In the current situation of riots on wednesday. We are skeptical about what kind of situation will be there.

Safe YES.
I live in Athens, and nothing happens to me.
But its troublesome since strikes are happening, so you can’t be sure if the ports will be open, or there would be normal transportation.

I think Athens is a pretty interesting city with all it’s history and monuments so I would definitely travel there.

I am traveling to Greece in 2 weeks for my Honeymoon. We are going to Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos, each for 4 days. I’ve read up on TripAdvisor and other sites about things to do, but I’m looking for recommendations about things that you really won’t find when looking on popular sites… kind of those hidden gems.

Also, wondering if there are any cities/parts that are dangerous and we should make sure to avoid.

But Athens – you will go to the Parthenon and the ampitheatre next door. These are powerful enough and allow about 3 hours but when you leave go by the back way and walk down towards the Acropolis Museum. Nearby there is a street where souvenirs are much cheaper than the Plaka
At night go to the roof top of the Attalos Hotel or the Hermes, amongst many others, for awesome views of the lit up Acropolis
There is the Zappos Museum, this man being one of those who funded the modern Olympics despite France wrongly claiming it. Nearby are various ancient temples.
There is Plaka by day or by night, the latter for dining. There are small shops that sell great meals for a pittance.
There are museums and cafes and restaurants…

Thira (aka Santorini) -it is almost time to have the Volcano Festival. If you are lucky, stay and enjoy it by the edge of any sea viewing spot but in the city centre there will be dancing, free nibbles and excitement. There is a lot to see there and we took a small tour with a great guide last year at this very time

Mykonos – fun and fabulous BUT stay together as it attracts people from the wrong attitudes too.

The residence permit is valid for the country it has been issued. You cannot stay in another country with that permit.
As a non EU citizen you will have to abide with what applies to each country’s permits.
In general you can visit for specific number of days another country but you cannot stay over that period.

I would say if you have booked an all inclusive then you might just get away with it … Personally even if I was booked all inclusive for one week, I would take a min of 700 euros cash and my credit card just in case.

another thing may be you might mistake an ALBANIAN for a greek and end up in brotherl some where in france,

OR you may…mistake a man form east finchley…pretending to be a DUKE or THE SPRIG..and end up in his albanian harem…

or you may even marry a greek boy claiming to own…the acropolis…. these are called …corfuians…. they appear before you like an astronaught… all in virgin white….

or you could be promissed a huge olive grove in thassos…and end up in turkish jail for 24 years..
