Should I travel to Athens, Greece in June still with all the uprising?

admin on Feb-16-2012

I’ve been watching the news lately with all the uprisings in Athens and I’m reconsidering my trip. Should I skip Greece altogether with the riots, or see the Acropolis for one day (which I highly desire) and then head down Santorini? I’m 24 and traveling alone on the way back home from a study abroad program in Italy from late May-June. Any tips?

The Acropolis is something that shouldn’t be missed. Go to Athens for a day or two, then head to the islands!!

Is it safe to travel to Greece?

admin on Jan-7-2012

With all of the drama going on in Greece is it safe to travel there right now? My brother in law just went (with the navy) and he said there’s lots of riots especially in Athens so it’s not a good idea to travel there now. Any opinions or ideas?

Not very.

How can i travel to Greece as cheaply as humanly possible?

admin on Dec-11-2011

I have been dreaming of going to Greece since i was 11 and i want to start planing a trip for some friends and myself to go. This trip will not be soon probably in 1-2 years but we will be gone for about 1-2 months and that takes a lot of planning. So just some tips on keeping it as cheap as possible would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a floaty and swim.

How would you travel around in Greece?

admin on Nov-2-2011

If someone were to travel to Greece, and tour around there, how would they get around the city? Around Athens?
Backpacking, riding a donkey, walking, driving, bussing? How do they usually get around?

Athens has a very nice metro system that link more or less whatever a tourist needs to see. Otherwise use a taxi. There are buses of course, but the streets of Athens are a bit slow.

Outside Athens use a buses. It takes a bit effort to figure out how they work, but once you do, its a very effective system.

Trains are not a good option in Greece.

You can also rent a car, get an airplane or even a donkey if you so wish.

I have to travel to Greece tomorrow but I think the country’s situation is pretty bad, is it safe?

admin on Oct-30-2011

My flight is to Athens from 20th October to Tuesday the 25th. I’ve read in the news that there are riots everywhere and that museums or even bus stations are closed due to the situation. Is it as serious as it looks to cancel my flight or should I still travel?

Your fine, the protesters have no problem with tourists. If you’re a banker then it might be a different situation. Just watch out for strikes that may interfere with your travel plans.

How will the Greece Economic Crisis affect my travel plans?

admin on Oct-20-2011

I am planning to travel to Athens and maybe do a day cruise to Saronic Islands in the latter part of December. I am a bit apprehensive about this, as I am unsure how the Greece Economic Crisis will affect my travel plans? Any information will be highly appreciated!

PLEASE do not be scared. we went last year, claims of crisis, and all was great. Our son was there last month. Great again. We have family there…

It IS cheaper to holiday in Greece than anywhere else in Europe. Turkey, outside of Europe, is also very cheap.

Should I learn Ancient Greek or Modern Greek if I want to travel in Greece?

admin on Aug-1-2011

I want to know which is more useful in the long run. Is there a huge difference? I sing songs in Greek and would travel there to study music. I would like to both understand the songs and be conversational with Greek folks. Which is more appropriate considering these two factors?

Modern Greek [thankfully, cause is easier], Though the ancients could read modern newspapers in Greece.

Thx for loving Greece !

Is it safe to travel to Greece this summer?

admin on Jul-12-2011

Im not going to Athens ,but to the southern part of Greece, is it safe?

yes, it is safe! don’t pay attention to the fact that now Greece in crisis and there are lots of problems caused because of this! If you still feel in danger, my advice is to take part in a guided tour! it would be better for you because you will have the chance to enjoy your stay there!

Can I travel from Greece to France using my British Driving licence?

admin on Jun-9-2011

Im in greece, I have lost my British passport and I cannot get a new one. Can I travel to France using my Brritish driving licence????? N.B Im travelling by plane.

No!
It is always best to take a passport or ID card with you when travelling around the passport-free Schengen area. Even though you do not need to show it at the border, there may be other occasions when you need to prove your identity – when stopped by a police officer or boarding a plane, for instance.
Please note that the only valid ID is the one delivered by national authorities. ◘ Driving licences, post, bank or tax cards are not accepted as valid travel documents or proof of identity.

No airline would let you board on just a driving licence since they are obliged only to transport passengers who hold proper travel documents.

You need to report the loss of your passport to the nearest police station and need to get an Emergency Travel Document issued by the U.K. Embassy in Athens prior to travel.
