i am moving to thassos island in greece next year and would like information with regards to law firm work?

admin on Jan-30-2012

i am currently learning the greek language and i am a qualified lawyer. i would like to work in a greek law firm and would like some information regarding this. i understand i may have to do more training once i am there and i dont mind working as a legal secretary or something at first as long as it is within a law firm or office of some sort to get myself started. i also know i might have to work in Kavala. can any give me any information with regards to this please? and if anyone english people are living in kavala? xx

…..Good Luck… and lucky you… Thassos is a beautiful island..

What puzzles me is are you able to practice law if not qualified as a lawyer under Greek Law…
……..giving an example: My brother qualified as a Lawyer in Los Angels (USA) but when he came to live in London for a few years he was not able to practice as he was not qualified under British Law. It meant he would have to sit the British Bar Exam and then work under a British qualified lawyer for two years before taking on his own cases. I was told that this is the norm worldwide.
It was quite grim for him at the time especially as he had a number of years experience and practice in his profession – He was lucky to work in London as an in-house counselor for an American company.

My point is you would need to enquire if the same law applies in Greece in order for you to practice.

can anyone tell me the best time of year to visit thassos in greece?

admin on Feb-4-2011

Thassos is on the North of Greece and is affected greatly by local weather changes. My advice is to go there sometime between mid August to end September. The weather then is hot and the crowds of July and beginning of August are gone.

Veg restaurants in Greece?

admin on Dec-9-2010

I’m wondering if anyone has been to Greece? I’m trying to find places that will accommodate my vegan diet. I’ll be in Thassos for 1 week. I have found that they do have a lot of vegetable side dishes, but I just wanted to find if there’s any specific for vegetarians and vegans.
I have already look on the internet and on Happy Cow,so now I’m trying to find some places through word of mouth.

True, vegeterianism or veganism aren’t popular in Greece. But, provided that, traditionally, Greeks are fasting for more that 100 days a year, (orthodox church decrees 180-200 days of fasting per year!) there are plenty of dishes to cover you. Especially if you visit greece before Easter or before Christmas.
Vegan dishes: fasolada (been soup), gigantes (large beens on the oven with tomato), fakes (lentil soup), fava (side dish), revithokeftedes (chick-pea fritata), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice), gemista (tomatoes and peppers stuffed with rice -be carefull sometimes they add mince, as well), briam (vegetable stew with eggplants and peppers), imam (aubergines with garlic), fasolakia (green beans), bamies (okra stew), yiachni (stew with potatoes)… etc
Needless to mention vegetarian dishes as they are much more.
vegetarian = χορτοφάγος (chortofagos) in greek. I think you will have no problem with the food, as long as you mention beforehand you are a vegetarian.
