I’m trying to identify a large wasp species on the Greek island of Syros. It is dark Orange/black and very large (at least 2cm, usually bigger).

It appears to be solitary, which makes me think it is not a European Hornet, which was my first instinct.

Could it be a species of Cicada Killer or another Hornet species?

My boyfriend and I have 2-3 days at the end of May (at the end of our trip). We are doing Athens, Santorini and Mykonos and have the option of spending our last few days at either Ios, Naxos, Paros or Syros. Any suggestions as to the best place to stay? We are b/w 25-30 years old, would like it if there are "things to do" other than the beach, would be up for going out at night, etc. We could also be persuaded by the cheapest choice!

I think that for your age and after you have visited Santorini and Mykonos you should go to Paros. Naxos is better for families with children, Syros is classy, and personally I do not like Ios. Paros is a fresh island full of young people. In the summer it’s a big party.

If you go to Paros, go by boat to the little island called Antiparos, only minutes away. There is an astonishing huge cave that you can visit.

Do not forget to go to the volcano at Santorini. Unique experience.

On wednesday!! I realise theres no topics on the subject of greece.. id jsyt like a little advice and on what to take, the people, food, money and just a few tips thanks!! ill be taking a flight to athens and then a ferry to the island of syros.. xx

Well; what to take?

Have some mosquito repellent, take only small amounts of shampoo, conditioner and suncream, and buy the rest when you get there, it saves on weight, and leaves you with a little more room in your suitcase.
Sunglasses,
Camera,
Book,
Magazines,
Travel insurance,
Tickets,
Passport,
Small first aid kit, ( plasters, Antiseptic cream etc)
Suncream
Aftersun
Its very hot out there at the moment ( I live in Cyprus!) so make sure you drink plenty of water during the daytime to avoid dehydration

It can be expensive, so keep a close on on your budget and your spending.
