best way to get from Lefkada, Greece to Dubrovnik?

admin on Dec-29-2011

We are going to be returning a boat at Lefkada in late September, and need to get as quickly and inexpensively as possible to Dubrovnik. What does anyone suggest? It looked as if airfares were outrageous.

The best choice and possibly the cheaper will be to take the local KTEL bus to Patras (actually Rio) and then another bus to Patras. From Patras you can take the ferry to Ancona. There you should be able to take another ferry to Dubrovnik.

If there are more than 2 of you to return, a very good option is to take a taxi to Igoumenitsa and take the ferry to Ancona from there. You will split the difference of the taxi fare and then the difference of the ferry ticket. Make sure you agree with the price of the taxi beforehand. If you search on the links provided you may find it worth for even 2 people.

Lefkas to Igoumenitsa is about 200 km and it can be done in about 2 hours.

Tattoo parlors in Greece?

admin on May-27-2011

I’m looking for a tattoo parlor in Igoumenitsa or Lefkas (Lefkada). Any help is appreciated :)

Most likely in Nidri and Lefkada town you may find some street artists doing tattoos. Possibly in Nidri that there will be a parlor, but I doubt it, since locals are not very apt to tattooing, and there will be not enough income to sustain one.

Why are english wasps so evil?

admin on Dec-25-2010

I went to greece recently i saw 2 types of wasp over there a very small abundent wasp which was a little bit smaller then a british wasp and a very large rarer wasp tha ti only saw about 5 times in my whole stay there, the smaller wasp would swarm all over your food on the island of lefkas (lefkada) and u could hit them bare hand and they wouldn’t sting you i kinder liked having them a round bcause i could look at them closley but without the worry of being stung they are quite beautiful actually, i didn’t want to try this with the larger one seeing as it was somewhat 3 times the size of a british wasp (= ultra scarey)
If I did that with a british one it would of stung me a couple of times and i would of had to jump in a pool or something to get it off me.

Why are they so aggressive?

because they are trying to protect their territory that you invaded

Greek translation?? Can somebody please help me translate this to greek?

admin on Dec-22-2010

Dear Jason,
It has been a while since I have heard from you. How is everything back home in Lefkada? i miss you and everyone. Life in America is not what it seems. I work fourteen hours a day to earn a living. There is alot of hardships and since I do not speak good English, it is even harder for me to speak with other people. I want to come back to Greece. As soon as I save enough money, I will come back home to all of you. But now I must go, my ink is running out and it will be another month to buy another pen. I will write again.

with love,
Chloe
I’m doing a project and we have to write a letter to Greece during the second american industrial revolution and I just thought I’d be creative and write the letter in english and greece but since internet translations don’t help, I need human help. plz plz thx

Χλόη(chloe=χλόη in greek.)

i tried to make it sound more greek, because some phrases can not be translated exactly in english.
ps:in the sentence:…it will be another month to buy another pen,
do you mean that you will have to work another one month to buy another pen?
the way i’ve translated it in greek is:it will need one more month to buy another pen.
if you mean something else(that you have to work one more month…)invoice me and i will fix it!

How about y’all?
@ Lyra: Freaky! Great minds think alike, I guess. Haha. I don’t know about getting rid of a goal…hmm…the King of the Bucket List might come after you. :O
@ Billet: Your #13 — Where are you going? :)
@ Lyra: It might…ha

@ Billet: Ohhh California! That’s awesome! I’ve only been there once, but it was in the middle of winter and we were in the mountains. I hope it’s warmer where you’re going!

My goodness, I am super late answering this. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. Well, great question, anyway.

1. Learn sign language.

2. Swim in the ocean. Any ocean.

3. See the Grand Canyon.

4. Publish a book.

5. Rob a bank.

6. Then give all the money back and apologize to the bank.

7. Make my own Chex Mix recipe.

8. Meet Johnny Depp.

9. Gain a hundred pounds, then lose it in two weeks. That’s probably not healthy, but hey, this is America.

10. Learn the lyrics to every Beatles song.

11. Go to a rock concert. And dance.

12. Fall in love and get married.

13. Do the Cha Cha Slide with a large group of people.

14. Graduate high school and go to college.

15. Eat fire.

16. Fly.

17. Buy a puppy.

18. Chew gum. I haven’t chewed gum in a really long time. I wants some gum.

19. Count to a million.

20. Meet a Y!A contact. (Yes, I stole this idea. I’m sorry.)

21. Go to Europe and see the whole thing.

22. Go on a game show and get rich….!

23. Cheat death.

24. Learn to play poker.

25. Then go to a casino.

26. Save the world.

27. Get my doctorates in… something….

28. Paint a really nice picture.

29. Meet an Oompa Loompa.

30. Create a cool sock collection.

@Lyra- Yeah, it’s pretty sad. The largest group of people I’ve ever done the Cha Cha Slide was with three others. It’d be a lot funner to do it with like fifteen or more people.

Greece Vacation!!! TIps?

admin on Dec-17-2010

Okay, i am pretty sure i am going to Greece next Spring Break!! So, what is the best hotle to stay in like i want to be able to go to Athens and places like that. I think i might want to stay at Porto Galini, on the island of Lefkada. Is that close to the main land, or is every island by each other, just have to take a boat, because i think im going to be going to alot of places there, so what are some good fancy hotles.

I am also interested in the anicent gods and civilization so what aresome good museums about that kind of stuff?

Good activeis to do there?

BEACHES! (if thereare any)

And, whjat is the modern city like, is it like building like new york, or like somthing else, if you have a picture, i would like to see.

And what is the food like?

And dose everyone ther speek Greek, or some engilish?
Thank you for your help!

Lefkada would be a great island to stay at as it is an island but has a bridge across the Lefkas Canal which connects it to the mainland. A little further down the coast of Lefkada is the ancient olympic site which would be a great place to visit. Lefkada is about a 6 hour drive to Athens (which is what I did) with many MANY great sites along the way. If you don’t like the thought of driving to Athens then Lefkada has an airport where you could fly there.

Lefkada also has many beaches including my personal favourite Porto Katsiki on the West Coast of the island. I’m not sure if there are buses or anything like that which travel to that part of the island because i sailed there which is a good option.

Food is great. There are many seafood restraunts situated around the island including traditional Greek food like the Greek Salad. In Athens there are pretty much no tall buildings but has many historic sites which you would love. (photograph in link below).

hope this helped!
have a nice trip!

Need help with my Greece mainland itinerary?

admin on Dec-16-2010

I will have 16 days in mainland Greece. I will be driving with an infant, husband and another baby under 2 years old. We will be going in the beginning of September and renting a car. We will start in Athens and end in Athens. We do not want to take ferries or planes to islands, since, with two babies it can be quite long and tiresome. The one island I am considering is Lefkada, since no plane or ferry is required, to my knowledge. Also, I was thinking of visiting KSamil, Albania, it seems they have nice beaches, is it worth it and is it safe? Can someone help me build a nice itinerary for 16 days. Original and off the beaten path places are welcomed, natural hot springs, and also not-to-miss places. If beaches are suggested, make sure they are close quality to those in Lefkada, since I am used to the Caribbeans, I wouldn’t go to beaches in Europe and miss other attractions unless they would be pretty comparable, nice white plush sand and clean beaches. We would like to spend some days chilling. Also, we wouldn’t like to drive everyday, and no more than 3 hours a day, with a few exceptions. Please indicate the route you’d spend 16 days on, what there is to do in the places you suggest, how much time I should spend there, if it’s pricey and also if you suggest any hotels in that area, is parking easy, etc. As for Athens, where is the best place to stay if you have a car? I’d like a newer hotel since in cities as hot and old as Athens, central hotels tend to be too seedy for my liking.

Thank you!

In previous answers there were some useful information in what you asked.

Beaches in Greece are in abundance but not many of them are Carribean style. They are Greek style.

A very picturesque tour is the peripheral coastal tour of Peloponnese. Athens , Corinth, Loutra Elenis, Epidavros, follow the coast to Portoheli. From close by Kosta you can leave the car at a parking place and catch the boat to Spetses. 10 min ride. Or Hydra a longer one.
Follow the route to Nafplion and close by Tolo beach.
On to Leonidio and from there to Monemvasia and from there to Neapoli and to close by Elafonissi.
Some fantastic beaches there and is only a short ride too.
from there go to Gytheion and on to the middle peninsula. A must is the Caves of Dirros in Aeropolis.
That is a boat ride in stalagmite and stalactite caves and is followed by a short walk on ground too.
go as far down as to the tip of the Peninsula and visit Porto Kayio and the entrance to Hades at the tip.
From Aeropoli go to Kalamata and from there to Koroni and Methoni. Visit Finikounta in the between.
From Methoni go to Pylos and then Gialova beach. From there to Kiparissia and to Olympia.
The beach of Kouroutas close to Amaliada. And from there to Patras.
The Rio – Andirio bridge will get you to the mainland Greece and from there if you go to Etoliko and Astakos you take the coastal road to Lefkada.

The Peloponnese tour leisurely can be done in a week, depending the time you want to spend in Lefkada a must is the beaches of Parga and Syvota.

The Ksamil visit is not all that you hear about, but if you are set on going the closest frontier pass in in Sagiada, which is north of Igoumenitsa.
From Igoumenitsa you have to take the new Egnatia road and go to Metsovo and from there to Meteora.
Meteora to Volos and Pilion and from there return to Athens.

Too many places along the way to visit and to many links. Try to look them up so you will know what I’m talking about.

@@Vergina. I’m glad you like it and when you make it let me tell you a few details more, since the inland routes offer a lot of interesting places too. I have done the round a couple of times and each one was a marvel.

Best way to get from Athens to Lefkada?

admin on Dec-15-2010

Hi,
I will be in Greece late May this year and need to get from Athens to Lefkada. I have heard you can get a bus which takes about 5 hours, or you can fly to Preveza.
I have found flights online from Athens to Preveza which were about $50 euro.
Does anyone know how much the bus trip is, and if you are able to book online beforehand? Or do you just wait until you are in Athens and do it then?
I would also be interested to know if the bus trip is worth doing, as I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of the Greek countryside from within a bus along the way, or am I just better off flying?

Zoi is completely wrong (what the heck has Nafpaktos and Giannina got to do with Lefkada!!!!)- the bus is an easy option – I will find the exact price for you later today (as my friend came up this weekend from Athens to Preveza )
There is a direct bus to Lefkada – I believe they are about 3 times a day – Athens – Preveza more often.
OK flight – flights are more than Euro 50 – the planes are small and they are approx 3 times a week – maybe more in late May. If the weather is bad they have been known to turn round and return to Athens – this happened to my friends on my wedding day!!!!
I (as a local) would always choose the bus. It takes 5 (or slightly more) hours – it takes the national road from Athens to Patra (2.30hrs) – then over the magnificent BRIDGE (sorry Zoi – no more ferry rides) at Rio to Andirrio. That’s incredible! Then the scenery greatly improves (only spoilt by the road passing Agrinio) for a further 2.30hrs direct to Lefkada! ALL NATIONAL ROADS – no roads as described by Zoi. We make this journey at least 26 times a year – as I always have business/ or pleasure in Athens)
The bus trip is well worth doing! Standing in Athens airport – waiting for the flight – flying – waiting for luggage – making your way from Lefkada from Preveza airport with take you nearly the same time as travelling via coach – but you will miss the incredible views!
Don’t know about booking online – best to get to the bus station early – if you are not travelling on or around a public holiday or weekend – the bus should be quite empty.

Peggy – Zoi – please refer to the map posted by Ioanna – the bus DOES NOT pass through Nafpaktos – nor Ioannina – nor is there a ferry to Lefkada from Athens!!!!!!!! I’ve does the journey thousands of times!!!!!! I live in Preveza – 10 mins away from Lefkada town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish people would not give wrong answers!
I can tell you the route – Athens (bus station Kiffisou) I can tell you every town you pass! National road to Korinthos (new national road to missed the town centre) pass Korinthos head towards Patra – before Patra turn at Rio – take bridge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rio_Antirio_dsc06218.jpg (there hasn’t been a need to use a ferry between the 2 for years!) over to Antirrio – up towards Agrinio (the turn to Nafpaktos will be on your right after the bridge – DO NOT take this TURN) Pass Agrino and head towards Amfilochia – then to Lefkada! Cross the tiny boat/bridge onto Lefkada island and you will arrive in Lefkada town at the NEW bus station which is situated a little out of the town centre. DONE!

National roads – the only windy patch of roads is Amfilochia – Lefkada which is approx 1hr – not dangerous roads and NOT a mountainous area – just beautiful green scenery!

Here’s the map –
Use this link and put in Athens (Greece) Lefkada (Greece) and it will show you a detailed MAP

http://route.rac.co.uk/

Peggy – maybe you are referring to another bus route and NOT the Athens-Lefkada one.

THANK YOU TREK – was beginning to think I was living in another country from everyone else!!!!
