Who went to corfu and kefalonia greece for the summer?

admin on Sep-2-2011

Did you went to greece this summer?? How was it and how r the economics theere…halia fantazome…

I visited Kefalonia for two weeks last year.

We stayed in a newly-built villa, Kyma & Eros in Svoronata. It’s a great island if you just want to relax, as it lacks a range of activities found on other Greek islands. Infrastructure can be bad too with poor road surfaces.

Nonetheless, I had a great time there. If you visit, Assos, Fiscardo and Melissani Lake are a must-see. Oh, don’t forget to stop by the bar in Svoronata, and say hi to George and Isabella too.

What are Smoking/Drinking restrictions in Greece?

admin on Aug-11-2011

I am going to Kefalonia, Greece for two weeks and was wondering what the age limit is for drinking alcohol and smoking?

In Greece, the Drinking age is between 17-18, while Smoking age is 16, but keep in mind that these Laws in Greece are not strictly enforced
While you do technically have to be the required age to purchase the products, most of the time – especially during the summer when many of the tourists are around – they will not even bother asking for your age. This typically happens in most Bars/Night Clubs. So, if your looking to experiment on these, it should not be a problem but please keep in mind that while most Clubs will let you go, others may not and ask for Identification.
Just keep in mind:
Greece has enacted an EU-regulation friendly smoking ban for public places in Greece beginning September 1st, 2010

How long is the plane ride from manchester airport to kefalonia in greece?

admin on Jul-23-2011

Read the question:L..

It should be something between 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours. Kefalonia is getting international charter flights directly to its airport.
Regular flights have to go through the Athens airport and then the time increases accordingly by the waiting time of connecting flights.

Any one been to Skiathos?

admin on Jul-6-2011

I’m thinking of going to Skiathos with my girlfriend at the end of August, would you recommend it and which is the best part of the island to stay and any tips while we’re there?

I’m 28 and she’s a few years older than me but really we like places that most young people don’t like going to. I’m a bit of an old man at heart! We would like somewhere charming which is unspoilt, with natural beauty and a bit of culture but mainly we want a beach holiday with the odd excursion. Being a bit lazy in the sea and by the pool and some nice quite restaurants to enjoy some good food and wine in the evenings.

I really hate chavvy or tacky places and certainly hate places that have strips of bars with neon lights and cafe with English breakfasts.

Our only real experience of Greece so far is Kefalonia where we had a really great time. Other than Greece we enjoyed Sardinia and Porto Santo just off Madeira to give the idea of the kind of places we like.

Any tips would be most welcome.

Thanks.

I think Skiathos is the most beautiful island of all. It’s green and blue, with pine trees reaching the seashore, spectacular views, excellent weather. The beaches are more than 60 in number, and each is different..There are bars, clubs, etc, but there are also quiet places next to the beach where one can enjoy the views and relax. The weather is fantastic, the food is unforgettable and the locals are friendly. while there you can visit the other 2 islands skopelos and alonnisos, they are just a small distance away and there are organized day trips by boat…along the way you might see dolphins swimming around your boat. Or you can visit the city of Volos and the Pelion mountain, which are both quite near and definitely worth seeing…

it’s quite a popular destination for tourists, but it maintains its beauty….Been going there forever, and i wouldn’t change it for any other place.

Couple holiday inspiration, beach, budget, culture and chav free….?

admin on Apr-21-2011

Hi guys, looking for a bit of holiday inspiration for myself and my girlfriend. Primarily we are looking for a beach holiday and it has to be relatively affordable. So now the tricky bit….I want some where completely chav free; no high-rise apartment blocks like Benidorm, no English Breakfasts like Malta etc etc.

To give you an idea of the places where we have been and enjoyed recently here are a few:

Sardinia
Porto Santo (small island off Madeira)
Split (Croatia)
Kefalonia (Greece)

We like a bit of culture, nice beaches and to avoid heaving crowds, any ideas would be great. We absolutely loved Porto Santo, we stayed at the Pestana 4* hotel which had great gardens, pools and was situated on a 7km sandy beach with virtually no one else on it. But we got a great deal and now rooms at the same hotel start at £250 a night and for a week is just too much.

I like the idea of Santorini accept it’s slightly too busy, a tad expensive and doesn’t have the best beaches.

Check out a hotel called world of wonders in bodrum, all inc on the beach, 7 bars, huge pool, 4 alacart resturants and main buffet resturant, its highly rated

How long would it take, to sail to Greece from the United States via Yaht?

admin on Mar-30-2011

Lets say for example New York, New York to Kefalonia in Greece. The boat is big enough to handle the waves so no stupid replies like, "A yaht wont be able to travel those waters safely" . Also the speed is very fast. I wanna know what would be the least time it would take to get to Greece.

From the content of your question I must guess that you perhaps do not realize that literally thousands of yachtsmen and yachtswomen cross the Atlantic yearly, and many thousands more traverse the Mediterranean to Greece.

It is not possible however to give an "accurate" estimate on time without much more information: e.g. it would be necessary to know whether we are discussing a motor yacht and its potential speed, a sailing yacht and whether it will be solely under sail or using motor power as well and its potential speed, the planned route, most importantly the time of year, etc etc Even with all this information there are always, and I repeat always, unforseen circumstances which can alter the most thorough forward planning. It has been wisely said "I will arrive when you see me sail into the harbour".

I would differ with the previous Poster who gave an estimate of a week and a half–this would be a good time for the Atlantic crossing to the Canary Islands at the most favourable time of year with excellent prevailing winds, etc. Even big liners take five days.

Having said all this, sailing this route could prove to be wonderful for you, but sailing experience would be essential for anyone wanting to crew. If this is what you are aiming at may I suggest you visit your local yacht club to check out what sailing instruction is available. If it is not and your question is purely to seek information, this proposed visit will prove interesting, and chatting with the yachtspeople there will give you a better insight. Who knows? Perhaps you may discover a new hobby.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever been to Fiscardo/Fiskardo in Kefalonia, Greece?

admin on Mar-19-2011

Hi randomtypings

I’m specifically looking for someone who holidays there frequently or actually lives there. Do you remember a derelict house near the harbour front? I have a friend is who is desperately looking for the owner of the property as they wish to purchase it.

A photo of the property – http://www.google.co.uk/m/search?q=abandoned+fiscardo&pbx=1&aq=f&oq=&aqi=-k0d0t0&fkt=2764&fsdt=18194&htf=&his=&site=images&gl=uk&source=mog&csll=&action=&ltoken=249aaa36#i=3

I have been to Fiscardo.

The best person to assist you in your search would seem to be Tasia Dendrinou–already referred to by a previous Poster. Tasia speaks English, and the ‘phone number I have is: +30 26740 41205.
Hope this helps.

How to get from Kefalonia to Santorini (GREECE)?

admin on Feb-20-2011

Hello
I’m hoping to travel around Greece in the summer.
I’m currently organizing it and finding difficulties in finding a way from Kefalonia to Santorini (The two Greek Islands)
Any Help please??

The best way to get about it with the least possible hustle is to fly to Athens and then take a flight for the next island. That is, Kefalonia – Athens, Athens – Santorini. If you make an early booking you can get an really cheap price for both legs of the trip. I believe though, that you will have to spend some time in the airport between flights.
The other option is to take the ferry to Patras. From Patras take the bus to Athens and from there go to Piraeus and take the boat to Santorini. It will be cheaper but more gruesome as you will have to change so many transports.
