Karpathos suggestions?

admin on Dec-29-2011

Next trip into Greece, second half of May brings me to Rhodos again.
I have been there before, but I considered it a must to show Rhodes, the old town, Lindos & Embonas to Gerda (we will get married 11/01/2008). She loves Greece as I do, or did I force here hand..?:-)
Within the 2 weeks we stay on Rhodes, we would like to jump over to Karpathos for 4-5 days. Another jewel to add to my Greek tours. All practical suggestions are welcome.

I can help i suppose since i am from Dodecanese Rhodes.
Once you arrive to Rhodes, it is nice to visit Embonas on the mountain very nice meat indeed you ll eat there, it is famous for its traditional tavernas and its wine, Lindos also, the ancient city with the capitain houses, 60 km away from the city of Rhodes, you ll be amazeded.
Concerning your excursion to Karpathos, there are daily boats in summer, as Daliana for example (they stop also in 1, 2 other islands, and some go to Crete too), and there is also air connection with Rhodes airport, not daily, i think 2 times per week…
Karpathos is a beautiful island, on the mountain of Olympos you ll see traditional women wearing traditional costumes, menetes n othher nice village, and there are beaches wonderful.
Dont forget also to buy kuluria, they are like dry biscuits, very particular in karpathos with sesam…

vacation question?

admin on Apr-18-2010

does anyone know anything about Karpathos, Greece. I’m planning to go there in a few weeks
anyone from karpathos?

Hi i am not from Karpathos, but one of my best friends is! From i what i hear from her, is that its a very traditional island which keeps many of its old customs. If you travel to other islands in Greece you will see that Karpathos is more traditional where it has a somewhat different mentality about things. It has a rich history and beautiful villages. The people there also tend to look more Mediterranean as its in the Southeast of Greece. Thats all i know, i am sorry i am not from there but this is what what my friend says. I hope i helped :)

GPS coverage Greece?

admin on Apr-11-2010

I know by experience coverage is very poor. Worst of all, my TomTom that is performing very well in NW-Europe, is giving ‘zero’ coverage. Shame on them.
I have seen MIO working well in the Athens area, but then again, I do not know what brand/system is offering the best coverage.
Travelling in Rhodes (I have been there) & Karpathos (difficult to get lost) during May, we are soon travelling by own transportation during September & October throughout mainland Greece. I am aware there is far from complete GPS coverage, but what equipment/software combination is offering me the best guidance.
Appreciate help of those having experience.

I know GPS in its ‘G’ means global, so coverage is global. My question is why or if so, where to obtain GPS software that covers Greece roads.. ?
