The question is about greece read the additional information?

• Discuss the successes and failures of Alexander the Great vs. Hannibal of Carthage.  Who did a better job achieving their goals?  Why?  Explain.

Alexander never lost a battle or campaign, and achieved all his strategic objectives in a given campaign until his army refused to march any further east in 326 BC.

Hannibal, although possessed of a tactical battlefield genius, was strategically weak.Although his passage of the Alps avoided the main Roman army positioned to block him,he lost half his army and all but of his elephants in achieving this.On arrival in Italy his forces were so weak that they required a period of rest and recuperation and the recruitment of local Gauls before being ready for further operations;had the Romans caught up with him then,Hannibal would be a mere footnote in history. He had no Plan B in Italy – having destroyed 3 Roman armies,Hannibal assumed Rome’s Italian allies would desert them and leave the city easy prey, but when this didn’t happen he had neither the wherewithal to assault Rome directly nor any idea of how to proceed afterwards. He stuck rigidly to Plan A,which hadn’t worked and therefore wasn’t likely too. Hannibal thus showed himself as strategically inflexible, something that Alexander could never be accused of.

Alexander conquered a huge empire in 12 years;Hannibal meandered around an unconquered Italy for 13 years losing rather than gaining any territory, and achieved nothing of any substance after Cannae (216 BC).

So,Alexander was much more succesful than Hannibal. However,it should be pointed out that Hannibal was fighting a much more formidable opponent in Rome than was alexander in Persia (Alexander’s uncle once remarked that he lost to the Romans because he was fighting men, whereas Alexander had triumphed over the Persians because he was fighting women).Nevertheless,Alexander was fighting a long way from home and went on to further victories and conquests after that of Persia going,in Greek terms, where no man had gone before.

Alexanderw as more succesful than Hannibal because he was a great strategist as well as a great tactician; Hannibal was a master tactician on the battlefield, but an average (at best) strategist.

First of all…what is Greece’s urban and rural population in % ?
What are at least 2 places to visit in Greece(Somewhere places that you would absolutely love to go?)
4-6 different activities in GREECE explaining them just a little like a phrase.
Events that occur in Greece. Fun and exciting ones. Modern and ones from the past. History!
Anyone who can help, it would greatly be appreciated! Thank You!!

Urbanization in Greece is about 66%.

The MUST see places in Greece are to my opinion the Parthenon and nearby Archaeological museum, and the Poseidon temple in Sounio

Events that occurred in Greece…. xmmm what can I say, for a Country with over 5000 years of recorded history that is a very very long list.

In Greece theater, comedy and drama was born in about 500-600 BC
The First democratic states were created around the same time

In 1940 Greek forces defeated the Axis armies, providing the first allied Victory in WWII
And since you are a girl, some time in your life you will have to do a PAP test, created by Dr George Papanicolaou (Γεωργιος Παπανικολάου) born in Kymi a village in the island of Euboea.

Can anyone give me some information on the Greece financial crisis going on right now?

admin on Nov-7-2011

I need to do a current event for history class, and I’m choosing this one, but I don’t have a specific article with all of the information I need. Does anyone have any articles they could give me a link to that will give me information on the crisis? (like basic information, and more extensive info) thanks!

I’ve taken a very deep interest in this crisis, as a Greek living abroad.

Michael Lewis is probably one of the best financial journalists alive today, especially after he profiled the US financial crisis in 2008.

This article is somewhat long and filled with narrative, but honestly, it gives the best description of the Greek crisis there is. It discusses in detail the vast corruption of the state and how the people are suffering because of it. If you are interested, definitely read this:

http://www.vanityfair.com/business/features/2010/10/greeks-bearing-bonds-201010

If you need a shorter article,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/10100201

Just remember Lewis became a millionaire in his early 20s working for an investment bank. He knows finance, economics, etc better than most people, and so he is very well qualified to speak about Greece.

Best,
Greg

Project on Greece, information on transportation please!?

admin on May-25-2011

So for my fourth hour class, I have to do a power point on Google Docs about Greece. I found a car rental place in Greece(you have to pretend you going to Greece and find all the information like airline tickets, hotel, and so on) and I got to thinking; Don’t they ride donkeys? I think only in Athens they drive, correct?

Dear Joely:

In 2011 there are NOT too many people on Donkeys!
I rode one, while in Santorini, up the cliffs from the dock.
But most citizens are in motorized transports.

In your research, don’t forget to Include all the ships/boats
that service the Greek Isles & many Car Ferries that
transport people to all the islands.

Greece is Amazing in cars or boats or on a Donkey!

ant on May-5-2011

I have quite an expensive peice of art work by James Sommerville and Simon, which I have to sell.  The ideal way to get good exposure for interested art buyers is to advertise or sell your art on the internet.

admin on Mar-29-2011

I’m doing a report for school and one of the topics in it is the wildlife in Athens. I cant seem to find much. Please answer with some facts/info or some links. Thanks.

Athens is a large city and as such it had the same kind of wildlife any city in the world has.

For Greece, that is another story.
