Emergence of Civilization Revisited (Sheffield Studies in Aegean Archaeology) (Sheffield Studies in Aegean Archaeology)
Product DescriptionThirty years on from Colin Renfrew’s landmark publication The Emergence of Civilisation a group of Aegean prehistorians came together to acknowledge this ground-breaking work and to bring the subject up to date. Fourteen papers from that meeting, including one from Renfrew himself, examine a fascinating and diverse section of topics, including settlement, leadership and social status. Each contributor makes reference to the contribution of the book to archaeological thought. (Sheffield Studies in Aegean Archaeology 6, Oxbow Books 2005)

I have to travel to Greece tomorrow but I think the country’s situation is pretty bad, is it safe?

admin on Oct-30-2011

My flight is to Athens from 20th October to Tuesday the 25th. I’ve read in the news that there are riots everywhere and that museums or even bus stations are closed due to the situation. Is it as serious as it looks to cancel my flight or should I still travel?

Your fine, the protesters have no problem with tourists. If you’re a banker then it might be a different situation. Just watch out for strikes that may interfere with your travel plans.

Compare a specific example of life in Ancient Greece or the Hellenic world?

admin on Oct-30-2011

Compare a specific example of life in Ancient Greece or the Hellenic world to that found in contemporary life in the U.S.

Describe one way that you see a particular tenet of Greek philosophy reflected in the modern Western worldview.

Democracy (people voting for a government)
Medicine (non holistic health treatment)
Olympics (Honor to the best athletes)
Theatre
Literature
Science
and so on
You have to see all greek words adopted by the english language, to understand the greek influence.
The most of them are in the science field.

At the link below, you will find a piece of english text from an old parliamentarian Xenofon Zolotas, were all the words (substantials, and adjectives) are greek.
