Do I pay tax while i’m working aboard in Corfu, Greece?

admin on Oct-31-2010

I’m a British citizen and i am planning on working in Corfu as either bar staff or promo work. Was wondering do I have to pay tax? And do i need to let tax rev know? I’m planning to work for 4 months. Do I need some sort of visa? Or anything like that?
I’m so confused i just wanna make sure i’ve sorted everything out before i go.
Thanx
I’m 24 and i’m currently working full time. I’ll be quitting my job a few weeks before I go. My friend is also coming. She’s also 24 and is doing part time work at the moment.

Good luck with that. There aren’t enough jobs for the locals let alone foreigners. Plus tourism is down 60% in Corfu.

I can’t decide between fethye, Olu deniz, Turkey or Kefalonia in Greece for my holiday. Any advice?

admin on Oct-31-2010

I don’t know this place in Turkey…i guess it’s beautiful.

But i strongly recommend Kefalonia, not only because i am Greek but it’s really a very very beautiful island.

It would be ideal to visit both , but i know it’s not easy.

Have a nice time wherever you go !

Last question about Greek men ?

admin on Oct-31-2010

Why do so many gay men believe Greek men to be gay ? Okay here’s the deal :

I saw the movie ” 300 ” in 2007 … while I was in a forum it was being circulated by gay men , neo cons and others that Greek men are gay , Ancient Greeks practiced homosexuality and that the 300 Spartans were gay lovers … that the word Lesbian came from the Greek Island of ” Lesbos ” because they believed Sapho to be a Lesbian ( ? )

I went on YouTube and typed ” Sexy Greek men ” … there were videos all over of ” GayEros ” and whichever

I thought Greek men were hot so I was sadden that perhaps they were gay and so I gave up

Fast forward one year later in 2008 and I got an email from a friend of mine … so there were a lot of gay groups in Greece with ” fag hags ” and the ” fag hags ” got more attention from Greek men than the gay guys themselves ???

I thought this was all a joke and ignored it for a while … then I decided to go to Greece … the amount of straight/hetero men in Greece was SHOCKING … oh my gosh it seems like I was lied to

Then I got another message that the 300 Spartans were not gay lovers … they mistaken them for the 300 Sacred Band of Thebes

Then I learned that not all Greek states were the same … some in Ancient Greece were purely homosexual , some mostly , others partial , some mostly straight/hetero and others purely straight/hetero

Usually in some states in homosexuality in Ancient Greece ( gosh I phrased that SO wrong LMAO but who cares … ) first they got married and then started to have homosexual relations … I found this was the other way around in Sparta and other Greek states … they started at 7 or 10 ? Through 20 ( where they got married and impregnanted the women ) and at 30 they would finally see their wives faces ( and since there were sons or daughters ” offspring ” would not be as important I think )

Here is something about sexual stereotypes about Greek men — > http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/98/Dec/islands.html

It goes like this ” The 2 Greek men are sleeping with each other and the Greek woman is cleaning and cooking for them ”

I LOLed at that ( gosh it seems I can’t write today proparly lol !!! )
Sadly right now I knew how wrong I was

But I still don’t get it … why do so many gay guys believe that most Greek men to be gay ?

Quick answer – ignorance and stereotypes are the base of these people who believe that most Greek guys are gay.

Sex and relationships between men have historically been different to how they are today, and in ancient Greece sex between the same sex seemed to have been a fairly traditional part of life – as varied as you state. Gay life varies today around the world, some countries kill gay people just for being who they are, whereas there is a growing acceptance of equality now in many places of the world.

There’s still homophobia, in its more recent meaning of the word, rather than that coined by Psychologists where it meant a fear. Such prejudice influences people to believe untruths and to distort their perception of others, as well as the past.

In summary, men in Greece are likely to have the typical sexual orientations that people around the world have, they are homo sapiens after all. The media often distorts things too, and this also influences perception.

But prejudice and bigotry still remain in the narrow minds of many. It’s great that you’ve been to Greece and explored more of the reality.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

schools for young children aged 7 and 4 to be educated in crete / greece. to be situated in the city of Chaina

admin on Oct-31-2010

Would like english and possible private education. need to know how to contact them for more details

There are no full time English schools in Chania – either public or private. There is only a very part – time (a couple of hours per week, after mainstream school hours) English school in Chania and expat children in the area must attend Greek school or be privately tutored at home. Alternatively there is an International school in Heraklion which teaches lessons in English (or French or German) and Greek.

About Crete:
Crete (Greek Κρήτη, modern Greek transliteration Kríti) is the largest of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean.
Crete is a popular tourist destination; its attractions include the Minoan sites of Knossos and Phaistos, the classical site of Gortys, the Venetian castle at Rethymno, and the Samaria Gorge, as well as many other natural sites, monuments, and beaches.
Crete was the centre of the Minoan civilization the oldest civilization in Europe.

Crete is extremely mountainous, and its character is defined by a high mountain range crossing from West to East, formed by three different groups of mountains. These are: the White Mountains or Lefka Ori (2,452 m); the Idi range (Psiloritis 2,456 m); the Dikti mountains (2,148 m); Kedros (1,777 m); Thripti (1,489 m)

These mountains gifted Crete with fertile plateaus, such as Lasithi, Omalos and Nidha ; caves, such as Diktaion and Idaion ; and gorges such as the famous Gorge of Samaria. The protected area of the Samaria Gorge is the home of kri-kri, while Cretan mountains and gorges are refuges for the endangered vulture Lammergeier (Gypaetus barbatus).

The south coast, including the Messara plain and Asterousia mountains, falls in the North African climatic zone, and thus enjoys significantly more sunny days and high temperatures throughout the year. In southern Crete date palms bear fruit and swallows remain year-long, without migrating to Africa.

Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece ; fifteen percent of all arrivals in Greece come through the city of Heraklion (port and airport), while charter journeys to Iraklion last year made up 20% of all charter flights in Greece. Overall, more than two million tourists visited Crete last year, and this increase in tourism is reflected on the number of hotel beds, rising by 53% in the period between 1986 to 1991, when the rest of Greece saw increases of only 25%. Today , the island’s tourism infrastructure caters to all tastes, including a very wide range of accommodation ; the island’s facilities take in large luxury hotels with their complete facilities swimming pools, sports and recreation , smaller family-owned apartments, camping facilities and others. Visitors reach the island via two international airports in Heraklion and Hania, or by boat to the main ports of Heraklion, Hania, Rethimno, and Agios Nikolaos.
