I’m going on holiday to Greece, How should I take my spending money?
I’m going on holiday to Greece after the general Election. Should I take Euros? If so Should I get them now as the pound might crash if there is a hung Parliment? I wont be taking travellers cheques. or what’s the best Euro bank account you can get in the UK?
It’s probably not worth stocking up with Euros. They might get more expensive and they might get cheaper. If the market knew the answer, it would be there already. At the moment the pound is undervalued against the Euro, but it could well stay there.
Take your debit card and draw Euros out of an ATM when you get there. The first choice you get is language so there’s no problem trying to fathom out the Greek alphabet. If you bank with Nationwide, you just get a straight exchange rate with no fee. Other banks may charge up to 5%, but it’s still cheaper than the mark-up on travellers’ cheques or changing notes.
